Our Support Team
Organising this little trip has turned into a second full-time job. We’ve need some help. Here’s the rest of the team.
John Thame has helped us sort out our finances not just on the sponsorship side, but also on the charity side.

John jointly heads up the agriculture and property team at Ellacotts, the Banbury-based firm of chartered accounts, looking after a wide range of farmers, landowners and agri-businesses.

Coming from a farming background, he is very aware of the issues facing the sector. He joined the firm in 1991 and is well known in farming circles for his practical advice. Experienced in all aspects of accounting and tax, John specialises in taxation and business consulting in the areas of succession planning and diversification opportunities. He also advises on taxation and strategic business planning within the leisure and tourism sector.

A member of the British Institute of Agriculture Consultants, he regularly gives talks on strategic and tax planning opportunities for farmers.

As an ex-professional rugby player, away from work John can usually be found watching or supporting local and national sides. Other interests include tennis, theatre and trying to keep as fit as he once was.

Becky Evans
Not having her hands full being Emlyn’s mum, Mrs Evans has also been helping the team with their aches & pains after their training.....

Give It a Go - Aromatherapy

Life on the farm is a school of patience; you can't hurry the crops or make an ox in two clays.  However, you can qualify as a clincial aromatherpist and introduce your employees, staff and their families, to the benefits of essential oils.  My clinic is a log cabin with superb views of the Warwickshire countryside.  A unique combination to the benefit of all.

Preparing for the Polar Race is turning into a bit of a second job - organising events, sorting out sponsorship, and most importantly, training. We’ve had some help along the way, and here are the details of a few people who we owe a debt of gratitude to. Thank you!

Ellie King
Ellie King is our press officer. The reason why we hired her? she’s a damn site more attractive than the rest of the team!

She also does it for a living, so she’s got a bit more experience than a stock broker, a bank manager, and, well, we don’t know what Em REALLY does (Al is pretty sure that the Squab EMPIRE is building a Death Star!)

Currently working as press officer for the UK’s largest integrated energy company E.ON UK, Ellie is quite at home dealing with the country’s journalists organising conferences, TV appearances, radio interviews, photo shoots and placing stories.

A Leamington lass herself, Ellie is also au fait with the local media in Emlyn and John’s home patch, having previously spent two years with Warwickshire County Council’s press office in Warwick.

She will be working with the boys to get their friendly faces, their charities, their extreme challenge and training exploits in the papers, over the airwaves and on TV screens across the UK.

You may also spot her in some of the team training days report as a fellow outdoor adventurer!

If you would like to see her handy work, please take a look at the “In the Press” page where you can see the team press coverage, as well as downloading the team press release.

Following Alex Henney's recent knee surgery Peter Strange at Chisense Holistic Health Studio was drafted in to help prepare Alex for the Race by providing a programme of Corrective Exercise and Neuromuscular Therapy aimed at improving his functional strength and stability for the Race and avoiding the risk of future injury.

Chisense Holistic Health Studio focuses on the optimum wellbeing of its clients by combining the ancient wisdom of the East with contemporary Western knowledge to create a unique fusion of Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapies, Corrective Exercise, Neuromuscular Therapy, Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching and Eastern influenced Beauty Therapy.

Unlike traditional Personal Training and rehabilitative approaches Corrective Exercise considers the whole body as a complex system of systems and sets about correcting muscle imbalances, postural distortions and impaired function by re-educating the body from the inside out thereby eliminating pain and preventing future injury. Neuromuscular Therapy is a useful adjunct to Corrective Exercise because there are often occasions where tension in the soft tissue which contributes to the body's imbalances cannot be released through stretching alone.

Peter Strange is a qualified Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiologist (CHEK), Nutrition & Lifestyle Coach and Neuromuscular Therapist. CHEK Practitioners and Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaches are recognised the World over as being the industry elite and are trained to coach their clients towards health and wellness through the holistic application of exercise, whole-food eating, stress management and the modification of various other lifestyle factors.

Pat Parsons
Pat has taught the team the arctic skills required to get the team to the Pole. What Pat doesn’t know about the cold & how to survive in sub-zero conditions isn’t worth knowing.

Having retired from the Royal Marines, Pat & his wife Nicky have started Middle Mountains, but met the team working through Nordic Challenge.

Pat’s career in the Royal Marines started in 1974. He served as an instructor with the Officer’ Training Wing at the Commando Training centre in Devon, is a former commander of the Mountain and Arctic Warfare Cadre, & was responsible for operations in Southern Turkey, Northern Iraq & Northern Ireland.

The lads owe a huge amount to Pat, having taught them a immense amount during their training expedition in Norway.

Debbie Jones has been invaluable to the team performing the task that the boys are terrible at...that being sewing. Debbie has helped the team get all their sponsors logo’s in the right place, & secured firmly so that they’re not going to get ripped off in the 40mph winds that they’re likely to face when they are in the Arctic.

Debbie can cover all your sewing needs, including emboidery, costumes for drama & stage, bridesmaid's dresses or custom work if you require.

She specialises in high quality - short runs - and at competitive prices.

To get in contact with Debbie simply email her at debbie@runwithscissors.co.uk
